2015 Business Excellence Awards

We are proud to announce that we have won the Green Award at the 2015 Lake Country Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence awards!  We would like to send a huge thanks to whoever nominated us in Lake Country!

For those that don’t know, we built our office building with the environment in mind, and carefully sourced all products, trying to use as much recycled or rapidly renewable resources as possible.  From recycled glass counter tops and bamboo flooring, to all geothermal heating and cooling, we tried to make the smallest environmental footprint as possible.

Besides our building, we try to be mindful of the environment with all of our decisions.  We are an almost paper-free office, use recycled products for our branded print material, use organic cleaners, organic coffee, provide organic fruit, etc. We try to do anything that can help make the smallest footprint and be the least damaging to our world.

Check out our YouTube video below that highlights all of the environmental aspects of our building!

Thanks again to everyone that nominated and voted for us – it is greatly appreciated and we are honoured to have won this award!

Happy Autumn!

For most individuals autumn means shorter days, less daylight and less energy, which we, at Beelineweb, are trying to avoid!

Inspired by Sweden, and their widely tested short workdays, we have decided that for the months of October and November, we are switching to a 7 hour work day - but keeping the salary as though we are here for 8 hours. Our new office hours for October and November will be 8am PST to 3pm PST (still including our 30 minute paid fitness break and lunch break in those 7 hours too!). This will hopefully result in more work/life balance, and more daylight to enjoy the things that really matter.  Our goal is happier, healthier, better rested individuals, resulting in increased energy, productivity and efficiency for the hours spent in the office.

Happy Autumn Everyone!

MozCon 2015

A few Beelineweb folk hanging out with Roger!
We are all still buzzing with excitement here at Beelineweb from another great MozCon conference last week!

For those that don’t know, our whole team travelled down to Seattle, Washington last week for the MozCon conference, which was 3 days of jam-packed information on everything SEO.  From social media, to content marketing, to analytics and PR, we had the pleasure of learning the most up-to-date information from industry leaders and walking away with multiple actionable items. (As well as a sweet Roger bobblehead and MozCon shirt!)

Some of the highlights of the week…

A fellow Canadian highlighted the importance of making sure your marketing matches your customer’s experience, and showed examples of ensuring your online presence matches the actual experience customers are getting.  Dana also spoke about companies' brand identity.

An SEO’s Guide to the Insane World of Content – with Matthew Brown

Matthew Brown, from the Product Strategy and Design team at Moz, talked through the strategies of content marketing from an SEO’s standpoint, and left us with actionable tactics to implement.

Surviving Google: SEO in 2020 – with Pete Meyers

Another amazing presentation from the Marketing Scientist at Moz.  This year's presentation helped prepare SEOs to be ready for what Google will look like in 5 years, and how much the results have changed in the past year.

Besides the amazing conference and great information, we lucked out on beautiful sunny weather in Seattle and got to enjoy everything the city had to offer!

2015 Annual Convention – Outcomes 2025

All of us from Beelineweb are back in the office after a wonderful show in Denver, Colorado!   It was so great seeing many of our client and agency contacts and meeting some friendly new individuals from both schools and agencies.  Thanks to the APSCU staff for everything they did to make it a successful event for both attendees and exhibitors!

Besides the actual convention itself, we had the pleasure of getting to explore Denver, as well as check out the famous Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, Boulder, Chautauqua Park and the big Flatirons.  Thanks to all the locals at the show that gave us such a great list of places to explore!

We hope to see everyone next year for the 2016 Annual Convention in Orlando!

The Bee Cause Campaign

Beelineweb is a proud contributor to Friends of the Earth Canada in support of The Bee Cause Campaign.

The Bee Cause is calling for a ban on bee-harmful practices and pesticides and is proposing practical ways to help the bees and natural pollinators.

While we believe ALL harmful pesticides should be banned and organic practices should always be used, this is a great place to start.  Bees are critical to the world’s food production, and bee populations worldwide are dwindling.   Many factors may account for honey bee losses; however, there is strong scientific evidence that a major contributing factor in the bee die-offs is the use of neonicotinoid pesticides.

Neonicotinoids (neonics) are systemic pesticides that are absorbed into plant tissues. Once they are applied, neonics spread through the entire plant, including the stems, flowers, nectar and pollen. This is scary stuff! While we use organic gardening practices at our office garden, we recently learned that many garden centers pre-treat plants with these pesticides that are harmful to bees. We are concerned that we could have inadvertently contributed to this problem by not knowing if the plants we purchased were bee safe. The Bee Cause Campaign can help avoid this problem!

Bees are extremely important to our food security, as 2/3 of crops do require bees to successfully grow, plus they help beautify our world by pollinating flowers.

2015 NACC Annual Conference

Downtown St. John's
This year’s Annual Conference for the National Association of Career Colleges in Canada was located in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and the theme was “Rock Solid Education”.

The conference started at one of the oldest, well-known pubs, called the Yellow Belly Brewery & Pub, where numerous members of the NACC (including schools and exhibitors) got “Screeched” in and became honorary Newfoundlanders!  This process included taking a shot of Screech rum, kissing a cod and performing a short recitation.  Many of us went home with a certificate proving that we are indeed honorary Newfoundlanders!

Day two was started in the Exhibit Hall (where we were, of course!) for a hot breakfast, followed by a lot of great sessions including a word from the CEO of the NACC and many other well-respected companies.  We were lucky enough to have Paul Davis, the Premier of Newfoundland & Labrador, as our keynote speaker, a delicious gala dinner and entertainment – traditional Newfoundland music with Jim Payne and Fergus O’Brien.

Not only was the conference a success, it brought a lot of individuals to Newfoundland and it was great to meet a lot of new leaders in the industry as well as catch up with our valued clients.

Besides the conference itself, some highlights of the trip included walking up to Signal Hill, driving out to Cape Spear and seeing the famous lighthouse, enjoying the nightlife that George Street had to offer, and seeing a large iceberg!

Check out our pictures below, and we hope to see you next year!

Okanagan Rail Trail Initiative

At Beelineweb, we feel blessed every day that we are located in the beautiful Okanagan Valley, and as a community, we have been given the opportunity to create something amazing – The Okanagan Rail Trail!  The Okanagan Rail Trail Initiative can allow us to secure this piece of land for public use, instead of having it sold privately—which would mean losing public access to lakes, current trails, etc.  This initiative promises multiple benefits, including a potential economic boost from increased visitors, public lake access, environmental well-being, healthy living, and other perks.

Not only are we proud contributors to the Okanagan Rail Trail Initiative, but we will also be voting YES on Saturday, April 25th, 2015.  Lake Country, BC needs a positive vote on Saturday’s referendum to borrow the funds to purchase our middle section of the railway.  For more voting information, please click here

To give some background, CN Railway announced in Fall 2013 that they would be discontinuing use of the railway between Coldstream and Kelowna, giving the opportunity for Okanagan communities to purchase this picturesque land, and create a trail for the public to enjoy. The Okanagan Rail Trail would connect multiple cities, as well as follow the shoreline of a number of beautiful lakes. The Okanagan currently has nothing that compares to this.

The total cost of the land is $22 million dollars.  The provincial government has pledged $7.2 Million to the project, but Lake Country needs to borrow funds in order to purchase their section.

Vote YES on Saturday to ensure that this amazing initiative goes through!
